Chinese New Year Celebration in London

This has established it as a vital cultural event in London’s calendar and the largest Chinese New Year celebration outside Asia.

Words from the organisers and supporters

Ahead of the 2025 event, the LCCA received warm and encouraging words from numerous partners and supporters. The Chair of the LCCA, Chu Ting Tang OBE, expressed his pride in the significance of this annual event:

“The snake, symbolising wisdom and agility, represents both personal growth and societal progress. As we enter the Year of the Snake, may we all undergo transformation in the year ahead, rising to new heights, and work together to build a bright future for both the Chinese and British communities!"

Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, extended his best wishes with the following message:

“To all the members of the British Chinese Community, I would like to thank you for your valuable contributions to this country. I hope we can all strive for the characteristics of wisdom and determination that embodies those born in the year of the Snake!”

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, commented:

“I’m proud that each year we host spectacular celebrations honouring the community’s culture, traditions and amazing cuisine in Trafalgar Square in the heart of our great city.

The Year of the Snake encourages us to reflect on our lives and look at ourselves and the world with a new perspective.

As Mayor, I will continue to do all I can to support our city’s East and South East Asian communities, make sure everyone is respected, valued and made to feel safe, and ensure London remains an open and welcoming place.”

The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Robert Rigby, added:

“As Lord Mayor of Westminster, I look forward greatly to the 2025 Chinese New Year Celebrations, which bring such wonder, beauty, and richness of culture to the streets of Westminster. Our city really comes alive during these festivities, as people from across the city, the country, and the world flock to see the largest Chinese New Year celebrations outside Asia.”

Rose Wangen-Jones, Managing Director at VisitLondon.com, said:

"London is gearing up for one of its biggest annual events as we celebrate the Year of the Snake across the West End and beyond. We're expecting hundreds of thousands of people to take part in the celebrations, which will feature a new stage on Dean Street, adding to the existing festivities from Trafalgar Square to Chinatown.

The celebrations in London are the biggest of any Chinese New Year event outside of Asia: and events like this are hugely significant, contributing more than £600m to London's economy each year. Beyond the parade and performances, visitors can enjoy special food and cultural experiences, from hidden cocktail bars in Chinatown to lucky Jiaozi dumplings to see in the new year."
